Group home scheduling software that fills the shift for you
Most scheduling tools were built for shops and restaurants, where a thin shift means slower service. In a staffed residential home an empty shift is a licensing and safety problem, so someone has to fill it — usually a supervisor, usually at an unreasonable hour, usually on overtime nobody planned. DSPsystem is built for that difference.
Homes, not "locations"
Scheduling is organised around each home and the coverage it requires, not a flat list of locations. Shifts carry real residential types — AM, PM, overnight, sleep and live-in — and each shift knows how many staff it needs, so an understaffed shift is visible before it becomes a crisis rather than after.
Call-outs get covered without a phone tree
When someone calls out, the system works out who is actually eligible — certifications current, not already scheduled, not heading into overtime — and offers the shift to them in priority order. Staff accept from their phone. Every attempt and acceptance is recorded, so there is a defensible record of how the shift was filled instead of a supervisor's memory.
Certification rules are enforced when it matters
A certification that lapsed last week is not a reminder to read later — it changes who may legally work a shift. Certifications are checked at the moment of assignment, so an expired credential blocks the assignment rather than surfacing during a survey.
Overtime is visible before you commit to it
Hours to date are shown while the assignment is being made, not discovered when payroll runs. Choosing to pay overtime becomes a decision rather than a surprise — and on a Medicaid-funded budget, one avoided overtime shift per home per month more than covers the platform.
Sleep and live-in shifts are handled properly
Sleep and live-in are first-class shift types, with interruption logging that feeds payroll. This is where generic tools fail residential providers completely: they have no concept of a shift where someone is present and asleep, so agencies end up making manual payroll adjustments and carrying avoidable wage-and-hour exposure.
A real app on your staff's phone
Direct support staff get native iOS and Android apps — not a bookmarked web page. That matters operationally: when a shift opens at 2 AM, a push notification has to actually reach a phone for the coverage loop to work at all.
Common questions
- How is this different from general staff scheduling apps?
- General tools schedule employees across locations. DSPsystem schedules staff across homes, with required staffing levels per shift, certification-based eligibility, residential shift types including sleep and live-in, and automated coverage when someone calls out. Those are structural differences, not extra settings.
- Do we have to replace our documentation system?
- No. DSPsystem is workforce operations — scheduling, time, coverage and staff compliance. It does not hold resident records or clinical documentation, so it sits alongside whatever documentation system you already use rather than replacing it.
- Will direct support staff actually use it?
- Staff see their schedule, clock in, and pick up open shifts from a native mobile app. There is no desktop requirement and no training manual — the common path is a handful of taps.
- How long does setup take?
- Most organisations are scheduling on the same day. Setup is homes, staff and shift patterns — there is no data migration of clinical records because we do not store them.
- What does it cost?
- Pricing is per home, starting at $149 per home per month, with a free trial and no long-term contract. Because it is priced per home rather than per user, hiring or backfilling staff does not increase the bill.
